Abstract
An appreciation of normal lymph node histology is essential to the understanding of non-Hodgkin’s lymphomas since each malignant cell type has its benign analogue in the non-neoplastic lymph node. The localization of a malignant lymphomatous infiltrate within a lymph node is also influenced by the position that the equivalent benign cells occupy in the node and can be a valuable diagnostic aid. To appreciate the morphology of normal lymph node cells it is best to study reactive or hyperplastic lymph nodes since it is only in this type of node that there are sufficient numbers of each cell type fully to reflect the morphological range.
