Abstract
The preceding chapters have dealt with the nature of the immunological tests which are available to detect HIV infection, and describe the blood donor screening programmes operating in the United States. This chapter reflects the experience of the first year of routine HIV testing of blood donors in the United Kingdom and gives a view, necessarily very incomplete, of the situation in some other European countries.
