Radiotherapy for breast cancer

  • Chapter
Breast Cancer Nursing

Abstract

Radiation has been used therapeutically for some 90 years, a history only slightly shorter than that of X-rays. Over the years it has been increasingly used for treating breast cancer, as evidence has accumulated to show that extensive and mutilating surgery offers little advantage in terms of survival or cure rate (Beckman, 1989).
