Abstract
Breast cancer is the cancer with the highest mortality rate among women in the UK. Some 15,000 women die from the disease every year, a severe loss in both economic and human terms. As the cause of the disease is unknown and primary prevention is not possible, researchers have turned their attention to screening and early detection of breast cancer in an attempt to combat it.
