Abstract
The widely prevalent problem of phlebitis, with its potentially fatal complication of pulmonary embolism, remains an important clinical problem both for the hospitalized and ambulatory patient. Peripheral vascular disease, resulting from atherosclerosis or other forms of vasculitis, with the complications of chronic cutaneous ulceration, pain, atrophy and gangrene, results in significant morbidity and incapacitation of the geriatric population.
