Abstract

Tears play a vital role in protecting vision by: moistening and lubricating the sclera, maintaining optical uniformity, providing nutrition for the cornea, and washing away foreign particles. The presence of antibacterial substances, including lysozyme and antibodies in tears protects the eyes from infection.
