Abstract
Pelvic pain is a common presenting symptom in gynaecological practice. This does not mean, however, that the cause of the pain is always a disease of the reproductive organs; any medical, surgical or orthopaedic problem causing lower abdominal pain in women may be confused with true gynaecological disorders. Awareness of non-gynaecological conditions is important so that appropriate treatments can be given and inappropriate surgery avoided.
