Abstract
Dorothea Orem graduated in 1939 with a BSc in Nursing, and obtained a Master’s degree in Nursing Science in 1945, both from the Catholic University of America. From 1945 to 1948 she was Director of the Providence Hospital School of Nursing in Detroit and Director of the Nursing Service in this hospital. From 1949 to 1957 she was a Nurse Consultant to the Division of Health and Institutional Service, Indiana State Board of Health; from 1957 to 1960 she was the Curriculum Consultant in the Office of Education, United States Department of Health, Education and Welfare in Washington, DC.
