Abstract
The earlier chapters in this book distinguish between recreational, risky and dependent drug misuse to give some order to a complex and ever changing phenomenon. As we have seen, recreational misuse may sometimes be risky and risky drug misuse encompasses recreational and dependent misuse. Up to this point, little mention has been made of the broad social environment in which the drug misuse occurs. It may be at home, in a rave or nightclub or in the street and the setting influences the consequences of drug misuse but does not necessarily determine it.
