Emotional factors in hearing loss

Abstract

This chapter reviews the psychological literature concerning clinical issues related to abnormalities of hearing. I have attempted to review studies which have addressed the question of emotional causes and consequences of these disorders and, where evidence exists, of what factors appear to influence the emotional effects of these symptoms (‘illness behaviour’).
