Abstract
This chapter outlines the nature of neurological illness and symptoms in a necessarily brief and selective review of the development of psychological approaches in this field. It also argues the case for the wider application of psychological models and makes specific reference to coping with chronic neurological illness and the provision of health care services. For a more comprehensive description of various neurological illnesses and psychological aspects by disease category, Table 16.1 contains key references to each of the main diagnostic groups within neurology.
