Abstract

This chapter is intended to look at the place of arthritis surgery from the physician’s point of view, and will not concern itself with technical details which lie within the province of the surgeon. However, to draw a line between knowledge relevant to the physician and that relevant to the surgeon is not possible in view of the big overlap that exists between their respective responsibilities. This is a manifestation of the team approach which is pivotal to the optimal management of patients requiring surgery.
