Abstract

By routinely performing a cerebral flow study on patients having radionuclide brain scans, the number of differential diagnostic possibilities for a positive brain scan can be decreased as information on the vascularity of the lesion is available. Areas of grossly decreased or slowed blood flow can be detected by this method. Further additional information can be obtained by recording images within a few minutes of injection. This allows the visualization of the equilibrium vascular pattern within the head before the radiopharmaceutical has time to concentrate in the extracellular space.
