Abstract
The person who has multiple sclerosis (MS) presents nursing with a series of challenges. This chapter explores the ways nursing can meet these in a variety of settings, both hospital and community based. In considering the complexities and unpredictable nature of the disease, the available strategies of nursing and their application, as well as some common problems and the research-based knowledge available to help overcome them, will be discussed. References are provided that will allow the reader to begin to explore these in more depth. In this chapter the term ‘nurse’ will refer to any nurse, health visitor or midwife in any speciality.
