Abstract
The title of this chapter is a little presumptuous and reflects the personal belief of the author. This is, however, supported by the work of writers and researchers in the field of professional practice (Boud and Griffin 1987, Schon 1983, Marsick 1987) but is not yet as universally accepted as the statement suggests. The chapter will discuss the concept of reflection, experiential learning and the evaluation of experience and argue that these are indeed essential for therapeutic practice in nursing.
