Abstract
This chapter seeks to raise awareness with regard to the changing role and the increasing demands that are likely to be expected of the practice nurse. The themes addressed include:

the development of the discipline of practice nursing;

the role of the practice nurse;
-
the influences emerging from the practice organization;
-
the application of a model to practice nursing;
-
the thinking practitioner.
