This chapter seeks to raise awareness with regard to the changing role and the increasing demands that are likely to be expected of the practice nurse. The themes addressed include:

  • the development of the discipline of practice nursing;

  • the role of the practice nurse;

  • the influences emerging from the practice organization;

  • the application of a model to practice nursing;

  • the thinking practitioner.
