Abstract

As we have seen later life is characterized by retirement and withdrawal from the labour market. This renders the elderly dependent upon pensions and other benefits, rather than earnings, for their income. In this chapter we examine current arrangements for financial provision in old age. We then consider the living standards of the elderly.
