Abstract

In this chapter we consider the nature of age differences in behaviour and discuss the implications these have, in methodological terms, for the study of social gerontology. Subsequently we summarize the major methodological issues that are particularly relevant to the study of ageing. The chapter is concluded by a brief review of the major types of research design used by social gerontologists.
