Practical work experience: a review of the literature

  • Chapter

Part of the book series: Therapy in Practice Series ((TPS))

Abstract

There is a vast amount of literature concerned with the nature and place of practice in formal education, with contributions from many fields including education, health care, business, engineering and science. Supervised work experience (SWE) is the term used by the Council for National Academic Awards (CNAA) for the practical or work-based components of college curricula and will be used in this chapter. Many graduate and undergraduate courses in health care and other fields have SWE as an important component of the students’ programme.
