Abstract
When a student becomes a member of a clinical group and shares in work experience, as an integral part of a planned programme of learning, he/she has to face considerable changes in the learning environment. If the student is to take full advantage of the experience, the clinical teacher will need to interpret the environment, so that opportunities can be exploited and threats and anxieties minimized.
