Abstract

A number of disorders are broadly grouped as spondyloarthropathies because of common clinical features: a tendency to asymmetrical involvement of large peripheral joints; axial skeleton involvement and enthesopathy (inflammation at the site of bony insertion of ligaments and tendons); systemic features such as uveitis and aortic valve disease; negative rheumatoid factor; strong genetic associations notably with HLA B27; sacroiliitis.
