  • Chapter

Abstract

Juvenile dermatomyositis is a relatively uncommon rheumatic disease which is characterized by non-suppurative inflammation of muscle and skin; early in its course, vasculitis of varying severity occurs, and later calcinosis. The peak age of onset in childhood is between five and 14 years; boys are slightly less frequently affected than girls.
