Abstract

The nuclear fission of uranium-235 described in the last chapter can be used to make either a nuclear bomb or a nuclear reactor. In this chapter, we describe the design and operating characteristics of nuclear power reactors, those reactors whose function is to make electricity. In subsequent chapters, we shall consider reactor accidents and problems of waste disposal.
