Abstract

The uricosuric substance benzbromarone initially was reported to be debrominated to bromobenzarone and benzarone (Yü 1976). Recently hydroxilation was shown to be the primary metabolic pathway (Walter-Sack et al 1987). In addition, in a few individuals pharmacokinetic studies showed evidence for a deficient benzbromarone elimination from plasma, characterized by a longer persistance of benzbromarone in the plasma (Walter-Sack et al 1988; Walter-Sack et al 1990a), which is likely to be a familial disorder (Zöllner et al 1990).
