Abstract
The association between diet and health is not only widely recognized but more and more is considered as a basis for Government strategies. In the past, food availability, food hygiene and food safety were the major concerns whereas the nutritional aspect of the wholesomeness of food played only a minor role. Recently, the Organizations dealing with public health in Europe, such as the WHO Regional Office for Europe, and the European Community have been seeking a more comprehensive approach to the area of healthy eating.
