Abstract
The science of neuroanatomy and the basis of description of the brain presuppose that behavior is a reflection of that structure (Adams, 1984; Adams & Sidman, 1968; Carpenter, 1976; Goss, 1973; Nieuwenhuys, Vougd, & Van Huijzen, 1979; Williams, 1975). Although the complex function of the brain has not allowed a point-by-point assignment of specific characteristics as once hoped, much of gross function is understood and can be localized. The revolution in imaging in the past few years has allowed observation of the living brain and furthered this understanding. To know the brain’s basic anatomy, nomenclature, and techniques used to obtain images of that anatomy is necessary for its prudent exploration.
