Abstract

In recent years a rather remarkable evolution of molecular beam experiments has taken place. This evolution is remarkable not so much in the high level of technology involved, or the increasing level of intricacy and sophistication — this technical evolution has been proceeding fairly continuously ever since the first crude experiments several decades ago. What is remarkable is that a qualitative change is taking place in the very subject matter of these experiments.
