Phasediagram, Superstructure and Properties of Poly (Diethylsiloxane), PDES

Abstract

In a first part the properties of PDES and its mesophase behavior are discussed and supplemented by some new volumetric and dynamic mechanical data. The dilatometric measurements indicate a small volume effect ΔV/V=0.004 during isotropization (m/i-transition) at normal pressure, which decreases with pressure and finally vanishes above 80 MPa. To check whether this transition persists at p>80 MPa and to determine the phasediagram of PDES, the improved shearquartz resonator method is described in a second part and successfully applied to measure the complex shear modulus G(p,T) of PDES. Finally the m/i-transition and its pressure dependence is quantitatively discussed.
