Solid-State 2H NMR: Overview with Specific Examples

  • Chapter
Solid State NMR of Polymers

Abstract

The value of high resolution (solution) NMR spectroscopy for investigating polymeric materials can be seen by the hundreds of applications and publications in this area each year. Owing to the sensitivity of chemical shifts to molecular bonding and stereochemistry, NMR can be used to look at polymer structure and tacticity, copolymer sequence distribution, and degree of branching.[1] Reaction mechanisms can be probed using isotopically labelled or natural abundance samples while NMR relaxation data can be related to polymer segmental motions.
