Abstract
In recent years the problems of diagnosing and treating patients with psychiatric and substance abuse comorbidities has become of serious concern. Although such patients have always been in both psychiatric and addictive disorders programs, they have been largely ignored. They have often been refused admission to treatment, referred to other programs, or just not noticed because they were felt to be untreatable or had very poor prognoses.
