BRDF Measurements and Mie Scattering Analysis of Spherical Particles on Optical Surfaces

  • Chapter
Particles on Surfaces 3

Abstract

We have used Mie scattering intensity predictions to compute the bidirectional reflectance distribution function (BRDF) of arbitrary dust size distributions on optical surfaces. This modeling approach is supported by experimental data on spherical particles with known size and optical properties, deposited on glass and mirrors and whose BRDF was measured with polarizers and analyzers. Our conclusions confirm previous published results on modeling the effects of particulate distributions on optical scatter.
