Reducing Uncertainties in Particle Adhesion and Removal Measurements

  • Chapter
Particles on Surfaces 3

Abstract

The sources of uncertainties in particle adhesion and removal studies are identified. Uncertainties can be reduced by proper selection of particle material, consistent cleaning of substrate surfaces, uniform deposition technique, and proper storage environment and duration. In addition, the method of applying removal forces has to be considered for data comparison. A standard set of experimental conditions is proposed to minimize these uncertainties.
