A Multifunctional Falling Needle Viscometer to measure Thermophysical Properties of Newtonian and Non-Newtonian Fluids: Applications

  • Chapter
Surface Phenomena and Additives in Water-Based Coatings and Printing Technology

Abstract

A new type of viscometer, the Falling Needle Viscometer has been developed. A Falling Needle Viscometer can not only be used measuring the viscous properties of Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluid but also other thermophysical properties such as density, isobaric expansion coefficient, zero shear rate viscosity, yield stress, mixture concentration, relative particle settling rates, intrinsic viscosity and molecular weight. Our understanding to characterize the coatings and printing ink formulations for their optimum performance can be improved with the property measurements mentioned.
