Abstract
The problems normally treated in quantum transport theory differ fundamentally from those of the usual transport theories. In the latter, one deals with well-defined probability distributions whose changes in space and time are governed by integral-differential equations involving complicated scattering rates. While sophisticated methods are often necessary to effect solutions, there is seldom any question as to the correctness of the form of the equations, and occasionally the individual scattering rates can be measured, or even calculated, independently.
