Abstract

In the past several years, the public and private sectors have initiated many approaches to prevention of HIV. Although few of these have been directed to the individual at his or her place of work, employers have taken measures which, under the rubric of prevention, have raised serious ethical and social concerns. This chapter presents a framework for consideration of prevention strategies in the workplace and suggests criteria for management and employees to use in selecting strategies appropriate to their circumstances. This chapter also provides information that could be used in addressing ethical issues that underlie both the prevention of HIV and services available to assist employees in coping with the epidemic.
