Abstract
The AIDS epidemic has been with us for a decade. In that time a tremendous amount has been learned about HIV infection in terms of its etiology and epidemiology. Most recently, new treatments have been developed that prolong the lives of people with AIDS. Also, until recently, little attention has been given to the risks that the adolescent population might experience and the unique problems they face in reducing their risk of exposure to the infection or coping with an actual HIV infection. This chapter examines the problems and possibilities of HIV infection among adolescents in the United States as we enter the next decade.
