Abstract

Experimental results from e+e reactions at PETRA on tests of QED and electro-weak theories are reviewed. The leptonic reactions e+e → e+e, γ γ, μ+μ and τ +τ and hadron production via e+e → qq̄ have been measured. The cross-sections calculated from QED agree well with the experimental values. A quantitative measure of the agreement with QED is obtained by inserting form-factors into the cross-section and deriving limits on the cut-off parameters. Assuming the validity of QED a search for weak interaction effects is performed, which results in stringent limits for the coupling constants of weak neutral current interactions.

  75. More data on the reaction e+e → μ+μ have been analysed by JADE, MARK J and TASSO. The new combined asymmetry is Aμμ = (−7.7 ± 2.4) % where −7.8 % is expected. It represents for the first time a statistically significant effect of weak neutral currents in e+e annihilations. This result has been presented by J. Branson, invited talk at the 1981 Int. Sym. on Lepton and Photon Interactions at High Energies, Bonn, Aug. 1981.
