Abstract
The kinetics of Chapter 6 dealt exclusively with systems which conserved mass. For such conservative systems, a transition always leads to a new state within the system. The sum of elements in any column of the rate constant matrix is always zero and the system must have a zero (equilibrium) eigenvalue. This chapter considers an alternate kinetic situation in which the state populations are generated by some input process.
