Studies of Genetic Differences in Response to Opioid Drugs

  • Chapter
The Genetic Basis of Alcohol and Drug Actions

Abstract

Over the past few years, a rather impressive amount of research with opioids has been conducted using various inbred strains, most commonly the BALB/c, C57BL/6, C3H/He, and the DBA/2 mouse strains. Much of this work has been reviewed by Oliverio and Castellano (1981), Horowitz (1981), Horowitz and Dudek (1983), Shuster (1984a, b, 1986, 1989), Crabbe et al. (1985), and Frishknecht et al. (1988). These reviews should be consulted for a more complete picture of this area of research. Research with recombinant inbred strains is reviewed separately.
