Abstract

Deuteron Magnetic Resonance (DMR) measurements at 30.7 MHz have been performed on an a-Zr2PdD2.9 sample between 19 and 460 K. A Bruker CXP 200 spectrometer and a cryogenic probe were used to examine Fourier transform line shapes and relaxation rates. Spin-lattice relaxation rates (\(\Gamma _1 = {\text{T}}_1^{ - 1} \)) were obtained by the saturation-recovery method. Transverse relaxation rates (\(\Gamma _2 = {\text{T}}_2^{ - 1} \)) were measured from line shapes which were Gaussian in the rigid lattice and Lorentzian when well narrowed. A quadrupole echo sequence was used to measure Γ1 and Γ2 for temperatures less than 345 K. In the rotating reference frame spin-lock rates Γ(SL) were measured with H1 locking fields of 10 and 40 G. Below 170 K, decay of quadrupolar order was observed with Jeener-Broekaert1 pulse sequences.

Supported in part by NSF Grant 85-03083 and, at Sandia, by USDOE under DE-AC04-76-DP00789.
