Abstract
The purpose of the present course is to provide a pedagogically simple introduction to the idea of quasi-atomic ‘giant-resonances’ and to some of their superficially paradoxical properties. In fact, they are in many ways far simpler than the more familiar autoionising resonances of atomic physics, with which it is constantly useful to contrast and compare them.
