Abstract
The process by which people communicate with each other involves the sending and receiving of messages from one person to another. Although people use different modalities to communicate, the senses of vision and hearing permit us to contact our environment without being near to it. Reception of auditory messages occurs continually, whether listening or responding to both verbal and nonverbal sounds. The auditory channel assists in developing appropriate speech skills by serving as a monitor of one’s own speech; it also is essential for comprehension and learning.
