Abstract

The process of communication is a highly complex and multifaceted developmental skill. Communicative competence can be viewed as “ the development of separable but interdependent systems” (Hollos, 1977, p. 211) that allow persons to represent and express their needs, ideas, emotions, and beliefs in a variety of forms and levels. This chapter will present discernible aspects appropriate to assessing the dynamic, complex processes of communication, speech, and language.
