Abstract

Many compelling questions are still unresolved in the field of prion diseases, two of which have captured much of the attention of researchers. The first and most burning question, obviously, relates to the actual nature of the infectious agent which has been named prion and which replicates in the central nervous system and in certain further tissues of infected animals and humans.
