Abstract

Cancer of the thyroid is a relatively uncommon malignancy; the incidence of clinically presenting thyroid carcinoma is approximately 36 per million population per year. A definite etiologic link exists between the development of thyroid cancer and a history of prior exposure to head and neck radiation. The incidence of differentiated thyroid carcinoma following head and neck radiation is 3–7%.
