Summary
In geriatric medicine, outcome as measure of the quality of care has made up of importance only in the last decade. In the care of irreversible dementia, the recovery is not a reachable goal, but a number of outcomes can be identified. The improvement of clinical picture (daily function, cognition, and behavioral disturbances), of the somatic symptoms and of the quality of life in the demented patients can be reached and easily assessed during a relatively brief stay in a Dementia Evaluation and Rehabilitation Unit.
