Protecting effect of Taurine against Hypoxic Cell Damage in Renal Tubular Cells Cultured in Different Transplant Preservation Solutions

  • Chapter

Part of the book series: Advances in Experimental Medicine and Biology ((AEMB,volume 359))

Abstract

The transplantation of human organs is an important field in current medicine and medical research. One of the limiting steps in organ transplantation is the preservation of the graft. Frequently the hypoxic storage of the removed organ limits the possibility of sucessful transplantation. The hypoxic cell damage due to insufficient organ preservation is a major cause for the loss or the dysfunction of transplanted organs like hearts and kidneys (6,9,13,17,20,24).
