Chemistry and Biological Activity of Steroid Saponins from Moldovian Plants

Abstract

According to the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO), up to 30% of crop yields are annually lost in world agriculture due to plant diseases. Application of pesticides allows the amount of loss to be significantly reduced. However, pesticide application results in serious disruption of the ecological balance, and may be dangerous for human health. In view of this, the development of products with mechanisms of action fundamentally different from those of pesticides should be regarded as a task of high priority.
