Abstract
For some time now the field of Network Management has been a source both for new requirements in the area of computer system building, and one of the most strenuous testing grounds for ideas and methodologies in that realm. Indeed, the complexity of an effective management system may necessarily exceed the complexity of the system it manages, since it must first master the intricacies of the managed system and its operation, and then render them comprehensible to a human operator or manager. The topic of this session therefore generated considerable expectations among the participants in the Workshop.
