Abstract

It is very hard for me to overestimate the influence of the work of Professor Larry Biedenharn in the field of group-theoretical methods in physics. Thus I was very glad when I met him personally in 1987. Our contacts were more intensive after 1988 when both of us started to work actively in the field of quantum groups (quantum algebras) where he made one of the first very important contributions1. In present paper I am reviewing and expanding some of my own work on quantum algebras. I have chosen mostly such material which I have discussed beneficially with Larry. In particular, some results, obtained in areas which he encouraged me to pursue, are published here for the first time.

Invited talk at the Symposium “Symmetries in Science VI: From the Rotation Group to Quantum Algebras” in honor of Professor L.C. Biedenharn on the occasion of his 70th birthday (August 1992, Bregenz, Austria), to appear in the Proceedings, Ed. B. Gruber.
